God, I love this series. I’m five books in, and each book is more of the same in the best possible way, and yet unique. This one was geared heavily towards an apocalyptic scenario, which is quite different from the rest of the series, but it was a long time coming to get here.

The characters and world-building have held up amazingly well throughout the series. They have depth, definitive personalities, and you can’t help but feel for them. I also like that the author doesn’t have any qualms about killing off well-loved characters when the plot calls for it – as much as it devastated my soul at the time. The romances and friendships, even the conflicts between the characters felt real and natural. It is all incredibly well-written and executed.

I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll say this: I loved this book. I love the series as a whole. I am incredibly sad that I have run through the last of the books. If you like Young Adult Science Fiction or Romance, I highly recommend this series and this book.

Book Review: Origin

Origin by Jennifer L. Armentrout was tense from start to finish. I think out of the entire series thus far, this book was without a doubt the most action-packed. It was thrilling and gripping from the very first page, and I know more is to come.

Once again, the characters, world-building, and writing were excellent. I have no complaints. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this series as a whole, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys YA Romance and Science Fiction.

Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout was an engaging read from start to finish. The book was well-written and grabbed my attention right away. the characters, both new and old to the series, had depth and purpose.

My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that some of the author’s plot hints were rather obvious. it wasn’t a surprise when Simon or Will returned. Did it change how I felt about the book? Not really.

I had fun. The author is good at drawing out tension and using conflict dynamics to drive the story and the character’s relationships. If you enjoy YA science Fiction Romances, this book is going to be right up your alley. I can’t wait to continue on with the series!

Book Review: Onyx

Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout, was once again, a fantastic and gripping addition to the Lux series – but man, was this one heart wrenching. The tension throughout the book, both in romantic relationships, friendships, and general plotline did not let up. I was gripped from the first page until the last and didn’t come up for air until it was over.

A lot was going on in this book – a lot – and yes, some of it was obvious to anyone paying attention, but that didn’t keep it from being deliciously dramatic in the best possible way. I enjoyed the characters, even though I learned to hate by the end of the book. The world-building held up to the first book in the series and is getting more complicated as it goes.

If you enjoy Young Adult Science Fiction Romances, I highly recommend you take a look at this series. It is well-written, and fun read.

Book Review: Obsidian

Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring… until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something… unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is.

I loved Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout. Taking a detour from the usual Young Adult Science Fiction Romance, this book/series delved into a world full of alien superpowers without adhering to the typical alien lore. It was nice to see a different take on life from other planets, as well as the consequences and side-effects of those beings trying to blend into our society.

The writing was fast-paced, easy to sink into, and relatively error-free (though I did catch a few typos, it was nothing book-breaking). The romance was full of tension, and a fun back-and-forth because the characters didn’t instantly like each other… in fact, most of the time, they were bickering. It was fun and sassy, and everything I was looking for in a sort of tongue-in-cheek Young Adult Romance.

Overall, I’m intrigued by the series thus far, and excited to delve further into it. If you’re looking for a Young Adult Science Fiction Romance to sink into, this is one I’d definitely recommend.
