The book is filled with the historical beginnings of Wicca, it’s deities, holidays, and general beliefs. It also contains information on ruins, sigils, scrying, spellwork, and their related components. All along the way, the author stops to ask the reader to consider their own beliefs and reminds them of their ability to chose and decide for themselves how best to practice their own Wiccan beliefs.

The book was easy to read and well-organized. If Wicca is something you are wanting to look into for either personal reasons or as an academic interest, this would be a good start to understand Wicca as a whole.

The Essential Guide To Wicca For Beginners by Amythyst Raine is a fantastic read for anyone interested in learning about or practicing Wicca. I found the book to be well written and well organized. The book delves fairly thoroughly into the history of Wicca as a whole, as well as explaining the different modern practices and beliefs. There are also a wide array of rituals and spells presented and thorough explanations of the components and tools used for each.

This is a solid addition to any new Wiccan’s bookshelf.

As someone who is outside the practice of Wicca, I found The Solitary Wicca Guide by Rowan Morgana a compelling read. I’ve done quite a bit of studying into modern Wicca and witchcraft practices this year, as well as delving into trying to understand the history behind witchcraft and Wicca, and I’ve enjoyed delving into different practitioner’s views on the practice.

Though not religious or spiritual myself in any real way, I find the thoughtfulness and calmness of how the solitary Wicca practice within this guide is presented, both reassuring and welcoming. It’s lovely to learn about a spiritual practice such as this that is so inclusive and moldable to each person’s experiences, rather than the usual strict views and practices of other religions.

The book was filled with an array of rituals, spellwork, daily practices, as well as more specific holiday practices. There’s a lot of practical information for the practitioner on how to work each ritual, the meaning behind it, the tools needed, and how to customize it to their own preferences. I think that if you are new to Wicca this would be a fantastic reference to have in your library to guide your way.

Herb Magic by Patti Wigington is a fantastic, quick resource for beginning herbalists, whether your interest is spurred on by Wiccan practices or otherwise. There is a lot of good, basic information, resources to learn more, and beautiful illustrations of the herbs being described within.

If you are at all interested in learning about herbalism, particularly in rituals and spellwork, this is a good place to start. The book was easy to read and follow and contains an abundance of knowledge.

Modern Wicca by Rowan Morgana was an eye-opening and intensely thought-provoking read for me – someone not of the Wiccan faith. I have never been a religious person and classify myself as something akin to an Athiest or Agnostic dependent upon my place in life… but after reading this book, I can say that IF I were to ascribe to a system of belief, it might very well lead me towards Wicca.

The Wiccan belief system, which centers around nature, inclusivity, and the idea of balance between our actions and their consequences spoke to me on a very human and basic level. Though the idea of altars, rituals, spells, and magick may seem silly to the casual observer, it was fascinating to see the underlying currents of real thoughtfulness and awareness that went into the physical acts of ritual and spellcraft. There is a sense of patience and understanding in what Wiccan practitioners do that goes beyond the surface level things we see and hear about Wicca in the media.

I hold a certain respect for Wiccans after having delved this little bit into their world and am certainly interested in reading more. (Author, hit me up if you need more reviews!) This book was well-written, well-organized, and came across as both thorough and unbiased in the way the author portrayed information. If you are interested in learning about Wicca, I’d say that this is an excellent place to start.
