Just A Quick Check-In

Hello people of blogland!

So, obviously it’s been awhile since I’ve posted (although I did have some reviews set up ahead of time). Here’s the skinny: My broken computer has now been fixed, which means I can now regularly post again! BUT, I’m going to temporarily hold off on new posts for a short while.

Unfortunately, I had to get a wisdom tooth removed this past Monday, and as anyone who’s had a wisdom tooth removed can tell you, it kind of sucks. It wasn’t the easiest of extractions (they had to break my tooth into 8 pieces to remove it because it wouldn’t come out) and no, I was not knocked out for the procedure… just your usual numbing shots. So as you can imagine, my mouth/jaw is super sore right now. They’ve got me on some pretty heavy pain medication, and my body doesn’t like it. I’ve been feeling super nauseous, dizzy, and tired the last few days, and I’m still recovering. So, I’m putting myself on break, at least long enough to let myself heal and get off of medication… because I’m just not functioning right now. (and don’t even get me started on how tired I am of eating mush). Hopefully I’ll be feeling better closer to the weekend.

I have a ton of new review requests queued up in my inbox to go through (I promise, I’ll get to them as soon as I can) and then I’ll be back to reading and reviewing. Right now, using my computer or my kindle to read leaves me feeling motion sick, so I’m going to take the time to heal up before I jump back into things. I hope everyone has had a great couple of weeks, and I’m excited to be back!

Short Break – Computer Issues

Hello, ladies and gentlemen of blogland! Unfortunately, I’m here to tell you that I’m taking a short break from blogging for (possibly) a few weeks. Obviously, I’ve talked about my previous, numerous, computer problems (you can read more here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here,  and here) yup, there’re that many problems. Anyways, my computer has decided to randomly shut down these days at extremely inopportune times, and after a little testing, we’ve discovered that the power supply on my computer is dying.

At this point, there are programs I can’t run, and things I can’t do unless I want my computer to shut off (and possibly not turn back on), which puts a little bit of a hold on my work. I’m in the process of contacting the company my computer came from in an attempt to replace the dying power supply, but basically, what this means is, I’m probably going to be without a computer for a few weeks (maybe less if I’m lucky, maybe more if I’m extremely unlucky) while I wait for my computer to ship, be fixed, and then be sent back to me.  Le sigh. <-can you hear my enthusiasm?

So for now, I am on hiatus. I may or may not have access to a laptop during this time in which to do posts—but I’m not counting on it. I will continue to read and write up reviews (which will be posted as soon as I am able), and yes, feel free to send me new review requests, but I may not get to them in a very timely manner until this situation is resolved. Please have patience, and I will endeavor to do the same.

My Computer Died. Again.

This is a bit of a public service announcement. Sadly, I woke up this morning to find my computer locked up on the sign-in screen. Figuring a good reboot would solve the problem (as it often does), I restarted my computer… and it never came back on. Somehow, magically, my video card died. Le sigh. I’m sure everyone remembers that I only just recently got my computer back after having the hard drive fail—I mean, it was less than a month ago.

Unfortunately, my husband (who deals with the computer company for me because IT guys never take women seriously when they call), is out of town for the week, so I can’t even get it taken care of until next week. We’ll probably end up sending the whole thing to the computer company this time (though, omg, my computer is huge and heavy and shipping will be ridiculously expensive).

What this all boils down to, is that I won’t have my computer, and my files, back for another several weeks.

Again.

Meanwhile, luckily I still have the laptop I used the last time, and because it’s been less than a month, it’s already set up with all of my programs, which makes things a little easier. Right now I’m currently planning to continue doing reviews, free fiction fridays, and weekend wrap ups—so things shouldn’t change too much. It’s just a little harder without my files. I will also continue to take review requests and emails about copyediting/proofreading—so do hesitate to send them!

Anyways, that’s all for now. I just wanted to let everyone know why there may be a delay or missing posts here and there depending on file/time constraints. I’m hoping I won’t miss any—but you never know. Homeschooling at my house starts tomorrow morning, and working out my new schedule is already giving me a headache.

I hope you all have a great week!

Things are getting a little off-kilter…

My new, lovely, computer. So, you may have woken up this morning and realized that my book review (scheduled for today) didn’t go up. I apologize. Here’s the thing:

After my week long battle with my new computer, things were starting to settle. My files were saved, I conned my husband into fixing my broken USB ports and checking my Windows for errors—after it kept randomly shutting down due to an NFTS file error. After half a week of battling with getting my new PC, up and running reliably, things were fixed!

And then my internet switch promptly died. My computer is the ONLY computer in our household that doesn’t have built-in WiFi (it MUST be plugged in), and it took us awhile to figure out why I suddenly had no internet—but yes, our internet switch died. I couldn’t make this stuff up. Somehow, magically, everything that could possibly go wrong with my computer and it’s ability to run has gone wrong this week. I don’t even know how to explain it other than to sit back and shake my head.

After a night of trying to figure out how I was the only PC in the household with no internet—despite the reboots and troubleshooting we were doing on my computer’s end (we even switched out my Ethernet cord twice in some vain hope that the brand new cord was faulty), we finally got thingMy new office space. Yes, I mutilate my desk. Whatever.s set aright. (Can you see where this is going? Wait for it: )

…and then last night an unexpected storm (it’s not even funny at this point) blew into town with 50mph wind (seriously), and our power kept flickering in and out. I was just praying my computer wasn’t about to get fried by a surge in the power (I’ve actually had that happen—fried a motherboard… I’m still traumatized). So, it is now Wednesday morning, and again, I have no review up. My schedule has very quickly gone to shit for the week. So here’s what I’m going to do—I am two books (or was it three?) behind right now on my reading. So for awhile, we are going to go off schedule. I am going to try and catch back up  and get reviews posted as quickly as I can. That may mean a week where I have reviews on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday… as well as Free Fiction Friday’s. That may happen this week, next week, the week after. We’ll see how it goes. There’s no telling at this point when the reviews will be uploaded—but uploaded they WILL be. I am determined to not let this blog go astray this year!

PS: I named my new computer The Gilded Court (after the Felnatherin royal court from Khet… my novel that was almost eaten by the faulty hard drive, Nom Nom)—I know you were wondering after I declared that I always name my computer hardware. I’m still looking for a new name for Nom Nom; the name now seems kind of ominous.
