Friday Update

Obviously, Free Fiction Friday didn’t happen today (don’t worry, it’ll be back next week). I’m still not sure yet about the review for Monday—but I’ll try to get it up in time. As most of you can imagine, my day consisted mostly of biting my nails over my possibly-dead external hard drive and the resulting loss of my literary babies. Aside from that, I spent most of my day catching up on chores, enjoying the forced-vacation from anything and everything computer related , and basically just cleaned up after the mess of moving three rooms around yesterday. I’m still sick (no surprise there) but doing pretty well all things considered.

So what’s up with the hard drive? We ended up buying a new shell in the hopes that my old shell had died (they’re notorious for that). Lo and behold, my computer could pick up the hard drive, but said that it was empty and the file system was corrupt. My heart stopped for about 2 minutes. So as a last ditch effort, my genius husband took my hard drive and hooked it up to his computer, hoping his motherboard would be able to handle the half-dead data-eater. Then, the miracle of miracles happened: my files appeared on the screen. I literally jumped up and ran around the house with my hands in the air. I can’t even tell you what a relief it was. Go figure, the brand spanking new shell we bought was also broken out of the box. (I hate you so much external hard drive shells!). So thankfully, that means my files are okay. They didn’t get eaten by the ominously-named external hard drive “nom nom” (yes, I name my hardware)—but, it is going to take another day or so to copy over the nearly 2 TB of stored data to another (internal and more reliable) hard drive we had available and hook it up to my computer. We’re not entirely out of the woods yet.

What this means to you: Not much. Free Fiction Friday was cancelled for today, and Monday’s post may also be missing (It just depends when I get my files back and if I find time to read—this has been a very busy week after all—but things should be back to normal by Wednesday. Thanks for your patience oh people of blogland, and huge thank you to all the people who had their fingers crossed for my files. I nearly cried tears of joy when I realized Khet and my e-book library were going to survive.
